Henri Coandă and Băneasa Airports - in the top of the European airports with highest air traffic growth in the first quarter

Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Bucharest Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport were ranked on top five European airports which have shown the best air traffic growth in the first quarter of 2017, as announced by Airports Council International - Europe.

Thus, Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, that recorded a 21,4% growth of air traffic, was ranked fifth after Reykjavík-Keflavik (Island), Kiev, Larnaca (Cyprus) and Malta for the category of airports that have between 5 and 10 million passengers.

Băneasa Airport recorded a 679% growth of air traffic and ranked first for the category of airports that have under 5 million passengers a year, followed by Nis (Serbia), Oradea, Mykonos (Greece), Zadar (Croatia).

In the first quarter, the list of airports with over 25 million passengers: Moscow Sheremetyevo, Manchester, London Gatwick, Amsterdam, and Oslo. In the category of 10 to 25 million passengers / year, the top ranked airports are Warsaw, Sankt Petersburg, Lisbon, Prague and Brussels.

Bucharest Airports National Company registered, in the first quarter of 2017, on Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Bucharest - Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, 2,6  million passengers and 28.249 aircraft movements (landings and take offs).

The evolution of the passengers’ number on Bucharest Airports National Company’s two airports exceeds the European general trend. Furthermore, the number of aircraft movements also increased significantly on Bucharest airports, going beyond the European trend once more. Thereby, the number of aircraft movements on Bucharest airports in the first eight months of 2016 increased by almost 8,6%  as compared to last year’s same period.
