Bucharest Airports National Company, established by merging Henri Coanda and Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu Airports, officially started its activity on Thursday, February the 11th, 2010.
Bucharest Airports National Company will provide the management and operational coordination of the two airports servicing Bucharest. The new company will harmonize and coordinate the development and modernization projects of the two airports in order to respond effectively to the medium and long term strategies in the aeronautical field. One of the priorities of the new company is to provide high level services so that the two platforms, Henri Coanda and Baneasa, become landmarks in the airport domain.
Henri Coanda Airport is currently developing phase III of the investment objective "Development and Modernization", whose finalization will provide the increase of the total processing capacity to 4,500 passengers per peak hour, at Schengen standards.
The "Strategic Program for developing the airport infrastructure of Henri Coanda Airport", a medium to long term investment program, provides, among others, the achievement of a new modular passenger terminal.
Investments have also been provided for Aurel Vlaicu Airport, meant to offer the passengers a modern infrastructure and a high level of safety, security and services quality.
The newly established airport system will process 75% of Romania’s total air traffic. Estimates show that, in 2010, over 7 million passengers will benefit from the services of either of the two airports, while the company’s turnover will be of 110 million Euros.
