Airport security

Bucharest Băneasa – Aurel Vlaicu International Airport has specially designated parking areas for the public. In this respect, stopping or station vehicles in prohibited areas and indicated by signs leads to blocking or removal of such vehicles.

Inside the public or restricted areas of the airport, it is forbidden to leave the luggage unattended, even for a short period of time. In case the luggage is found unattended, they will be considered suspect and can be destroyed for reasons of security.

The access to the security control filter is allowed only to holders of a valid boarding card.

Following the threat of terrorist attacks, the security controls applied to passengers and their luggage before boarding are detailed in order to prevent from introducing on board of the aircraft the prohibited items (weapons, explosives or other dangerous objects and devices), which may be used to commit an act of unlawful interference.

In order to avoid overcrowding the security control filters, passengers must ensure they do not carry into the luggage (both in the cabin and in the hold) the prohibited items for aircraft transport.

 

Passengers are forbidden to carry with them or in their cabin luggage the following items:

a) Guns, firearms and weapons.

Any object capable or apparently able to launch projectiles or to cause harm, such as:

• All weapons (guns, revolvers, rifle, shotguns, etc.);
• firearms imitations;
• parts of firearms (except for aiming devices and telescopic sights);
• Guns and compressed air rifle and shotguns with buckshot;
• Guns rocket launchers signalling;
• Guns start;
• Pistols and toy guns of all kinds;
• Pistols and shotguns with balls;
• industrial guns for bolts and nails;
• Arbalests;
• Catapults;
• Hooks and hook launchers;
• Tools for animal euthanasia;
• Paralyzing or neutralizing devices such as instruments with electric shocks for animals,  weapons with electric shocks;
• lighters (gun shape).

 

b) Arms with cutting edge and cutting objects

Cutting edge articles that can cause harm, such as:

• axes and axes handles;
• Arrows and darts arrow;
• hook nails;
• harpoons and javelins;
• axes and ice-breaking hammers;
• skaters;
• pocket knife with blades of any length;
• Knives, including ceremonial stilettos, with blades of more than 6 cm, of metal or other material sufficiently resistant to be used as a weapon;
• choppers;
• Machetes;
• Razors and blades (excepting safety or single use razors with included);
• Swords, and sword canes
• Bistouries;
• Scissors with blades with a length of more than 6 cm;
• ski sticks and walking sticks;
• shurikens;
• Tools of craftsmen that can be used as cutting edge weapons, such as drills and point drills, cutters, utility knives, all kinds of saws, screw driver, crowbars, hammers, cutting pliers, fixed, tubular and adjustable keys, burners.

 

c) Contusive instruments

Any contusive instrument that may cause harm, such as:

• baseball and softball bats;
• rigid or flexible cudgels or truncheons;
• cricket bats;
• Golf clubs;
• hokey sticks;
• Clubs for Lacrosse;
• Paddles for kayak-canoe;
• skateboard ;
• cues for billiard, snooker and pool;
• fishing hooks;
• Martial arts specific equipment, such as rosettes, sticks, tonfe, nunchaku, kubaton, kubasaunt;

 

d) Flammable and explosive substances

Any explosive or highly flammable substance that present a health risk for passengers and crew or security / safety of aircraft or goods, such as:

• Ammunition;
• Percussion detonator;
• Detonators and fuses;
• Explosives and explosive devices;
• Imitations of explosive materials or devices;
• Mines and other military explosive devices;
• grenades of any kind;
• Gas and high volume gas containers (butane, propane, acetylene moiety, oxygen);
• Fireworks, signal rockets of any form and other pyrotechnics (including petards and fire-crackers);
• Matches other than safety;
• Smoke bombs or smoke cartridges;
• Inflammable liquid fuels such as gasoline, diesel, fuel for lighters, alcohol, ethanol;
• Paints in containers under pressure;
• Turpentine and paint thinners;
• Alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of more than 70% by volume (140% proof);

 

e) Chemical and toxic substances 

Any toxic or chemical substance that present a health risk for passengers and crew or security / safety of the aircraft or property, such as:

• Acids and alkaloids, such as batteries and accumulators with non hermetic sealed solid electrolytes;
• Corrosive substances and bleaching products - such as mercury, chlorine;
• Paralyzing or Neutralizing sprays - such as spray with pepper, tear gas
• radioactive materials - such as medical and commercial isotopes;
• poisons;
• infectious or biological dangerous substances - such as infected blood, bacteria and viruses;
• Materials that present a risk of ignition or spontaneous combustion;
• fire extinguisher.

 

f) Liquids

Liquids, except in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 milliliters, or equivalent, in a transparent plastic resalable bag with a capacity of more than 1 liter (approximate size 20 cm x 20 cm).

 

The content of the plastic bag should fit comfortably and the bag must be completely closed. The following items are considered liquids: gels, pastes, lotions, and mixtures of liquid/solid substances in containers under pressure, such as toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, shaving foam, aerosols and other items of similar consistency.

 

There can be exceptions when the liquid:

1. Is used during the flight and is prescribed for medical reasons or for a specific diet, including food for infants. When requested, passengers must present a proof of the autenticity of the excepted liquid.

2. Has been achieved in the area of air operations, after the control of your boarding pass, the points of sale under security procedures approved under the security of the airport, provided the liquid to be in a sealed bag and there is evidence satisfactory to the effect of the acquisition of the bag the same day.

3. was obtained in the security zone with restricted access from points of sale under security procedures approved under the security of the airport.

4. was obtained in  another airport community, provided the liquid to be in a sealed bag and there is satisfactory evidence attesting to the purchase of the bag in the area of airport air operations the same day.

5. was achieved on an aircraft of a European Union air carrier, provided the liquid to be in a sealed bag and there is satisfactory evidence attesting to the purchase on board the same day.

 

g). Hand luggage that exceeds the size of 56cm x 45 cm x 25 cm.

The dimensions include baggage handle, belts, pockets, wheels, and other prominent components, including the contents of luggage.

There may be granted exemptions for hand luggage which exceeds the permitted size and contains an object or more objects that are too large to fit in luggage and represent valuables which are fragile.

Passengers must present the luggage that exceed the permitted size at check in point in order to be approved and the screening point to be examined.

If the articles mentioned above are found in the hand baggage, they will be confiscated and will not be returned.

 

In situations in which you have doubts about an item, contact the airline personnel you travel with.

 

Security personnel can refuse the transportation of any items deemed suspicious and not included in the list mentioned above.

The following items are forbidden in hold luggage:

• explosives, including detonators, fuses, grenades and mines
• gas, including propane and butane
• flammable liquids, including gasoline and methanol
• flammable solids and reactive substances, including magnesium, igniters, fireworks, signaling rockets.
• Oxidizers and organic peroxides, including bleaching agents and car body repairing kit
• infectious or toxic substances, including rat poison and infected blood
• Radioactive material, including medicinal or commercial  isotopes
• corrosive substances, including mercury and auto batteries
• fuel supply system components for vehicles that contain fuel
• x ray machines do not damage photographic films

 

It is recommended that people with cardiac stimulant to inform security staff before moving through the gate metal detectors

Before passing through the gate metal detectors, passengers must take off their coats, carry-on bags, belts, etc, to remove all the objects from pockets and to hand them in the trays in order to be controlled separately.

Portable computers and other large electric appliances should be removed from baggage to be examined separately

Security personnel performs its duties in accordance with national, international and European Union aviation security regulations.  At security control filters passengers are obliged to follow the indications of security personnel.
